This week was one of the final weeks we had to work on for our planning, as based on our pre-scheduled timetable. As my partner and I had already completed most of the work that was set, we did not have as much to do as we expected, which showcases how we have managed our time very well and gives us great hope for our actual production.
The first thing we created was the audience profile. This was a way of showcasing what a typical member of our target market would like so that we could refer back to it when we were unsure of what to include in our video.
We also completed a magazine advert analysis of three different artists. This included Beyoncé, Ciara and Miley Cyrus. We wanted to dwell into our own market so we chose artists that shared some form of similarity to our own. This was a great way to understand the marketing sector of the music industry as we understood quite a bit. We found out that sexualisation was important as it enabled the audience to have their attention caught. However, Ciara's advert taught us that sometimes elegant women are also used for a promotional tool. With makeup, a nice outfit and a strong pose, we get a certain atmosphere delivered from the celebrity. We can take both of these things into consideration when working on our artist as we could sexualise her in some form, but as we would like to keep her class, having clothes would be a useful tool. We can still sexualise her by the camera positions, but the way she acts and dresses is very important, as taught by these analysations.
This was also complimented by the completion of our music video analysis. As we had previously analysed three digipaks, as well as what I have already said, this was our third product that we looked at. This taught us many conventions of music videos such as what they wear, what type of shots they include and plenty of other aspects. Last week we completed our survey and this week we reached our aim of gaining 20 responses; in fact, we obtained 22, which is great! This can be seen here and it should be noted that we tried to take in every response as possible, but plenty of the options were more popular than others, so it was safe to go for the popular responses as oppose to the unpopular ones. We understood that conventions that we chose such as a street wall, performance style video and more were very popular. This was a great response as we had understood that our idea was something that our market liked.
Towards the end of the week we completed a focus group that was used to see what the general public thought of our idea, as oppose to members of our media class. This gave us a similar response to our survey as we got completely positive feedback on our idea. This was a wonderful thing to hear as we can now move on with the production of our project with the mind set that people will like our idea, if we film it correctly!
